Here are a few designs that I have edited recently so that they match the workshop brief better. For the first design I added pigeons in the background, to give the piece a little hint of London, in comparison to the previous designs that have the blatant London skyline in them. I also added the silhouette of a toilet seat in the second design to give the sentence a bit of irony and added humour.

Here are a few design I have put together for the 'London through the eyes of a designer' project. A few of them are similar however I would really like to use all of them in my finished book.
This one is my favorite one I really like the edited type at the bottom, I think this could work really well as the front cover?
This is supposed to read 'London (LDN) through (FRU) the (DAH) eyes (IZE) of a (OVA) designer (DES) (INE) (ARH). Hopefully it is easyish' to read?

Here is some of the work I produced from todays workshop with Paul. (Positive + Negative space). We had to go through a copy of today's paper analysing which areas where negative and which areas were positive. We then had to put this onto a seperate sheet and incorporate a design that would explain which areas of the paper were positive and which areas were negative. I don't think my design worked out too well because I didn't push the boundaries of design enough so I think I will try and make another piece that does show this in a better way?
Here are some doodles I made whilst discovering the positive + negative space in todays newspaper.
I also found the headline really amusing so I put that in the picture as well.
Here is some work I produced whilst I was doing some work experience at the daily mirror. It is an ad for a psychic call centre, however I do not think the following two designs will be chosen.
I prefer the second design better because it was completely my design with no similarities to any previous designs.

Here is a logo design I offered my Brothers boss for his company as an alternative to theirs because their logo is repulsive. He did not want my idea as he said it would cost to much money to re-brand his company. However I thought that if he did re-brand his company with this logo he would attract more suitable clients and in the long time earn more money. I didn't tell him this though because I was too gutted that he wasn't blown away by my design. But never mind!?

Here is the outcome for my VCT Timeline project. As my project was centered around the history of NME magazine I decided to produce my timeline in the style of a magazine. I was really pleased with how the project turned out and can't wait to get the mag back so I can show people. That is how pleased of it I was, I'm gonna show it off! BOOOM!
Here are a few images I captured after being at the London street photography exhibition two weeks ago... After looking at all of the work in the exhibition it made me want to take some photographs. So in a similar way to a few images I saw I tried to produce my own style of photography. This was something I have never tried before, as all the images I have ever taken have been to show my work an not to be used as a piece of design in itself.
In this image I tried to use the reflection in the window and the message I smudged into the dirt to try to put together an interesting graphic. I really like how this turned out and I am seriously considering using it in my 'London through the eyes of a designer' project.
I also found this photograph interesting, as I was walking I noticed a man sitting on the phone, in front of a phone box that was in front of a carphone warhouse. I thought the little happy accident situation was very cool.

I really liked the end result of my design I think the slit looked really cool and the plain dust jacket gave the piece a clean feel. Here are a few other people's dust jackets that I thought were really cool also.
I really liked this dust jacket design, I thought it was cool how after taking the band off of the book it revealed a different message that was still relevant 'london designer'.
I thought this design was really cool because it showed a good use of white space and the folds made it interactive for the viewer. Both of these designs show good ideas that mine do not have this will be something I will have to think about for when my final designs come to use.

In today's session with Paul we analysed the difference between posters and dust jackets. We started by listing which formats the two have in common and how they are different. We then individually created dust jackets that showed a chosen word from a variety of words. I started by folding this piece of paper to create a dust jacket, to show the word 'balance'.
I made this the front cover of my book, and below is the back page of my book. I wanted the slit to make the text noticable but still difficult to read.

I wanted the dust jacket to look 'balanced' so I decided to make all of the folds equal. After this we had to then incorporate text into the design of the dummy book. This is the idea I came up with.

Here is my work with my friend sam from VCT earlier on today. We had to produce a timeline on the french designer Cassandre. We decided to produce two parts to it, the top part involving Cassandre's typographic work, and the second part involving his Poster designs. I think it turned out ok considering we only had roughly half hour to produce it.
